A look at the 2009 Arctic Cat ATV line up
Need an ATV or UTV specialist? Arctic Cat tries to fill it with dynamics model 2009 lineup which was unveiled at its dealer meeting hometown in 2009 in Thief River Falls, Minn., in early June
The company has several new models with more power, and some with less power.
Most of his machines up a bit lowest for the year 2009, if a single goal: to build mud machine rides much higher.
Cat engineers built more machines for riding in two places, and at the same time time range of options for young riders. They drove on a new Prowler UTV will bring joy Pure performance junkies, and another new working class Prowler crying "utility."
Cat has a new engine of its own, a 545cc single liquid, which is located in a model H1 TRV 2-up and a Prowler, and expanded the Thundercat engine. It also introduced new 150 - and 300-class engines shared with KYMCO which are placed in a machine for a new "transitional" market and a new sport quad, respectively.
All totaled, Arctic Cat 9 machines eliminated for 2009, including Diesel 700, 400 4x4, two models DVX (400 & 250) and two VTR (650 & 500), while the creation 13 new models. The new machines are:
• Two new Rangers, headlining the Prowler XTZ 1000, featuring twin 951cc liquid-cooled Thundercat introduced last year, plus a Prowler 550 to flat, with the new 545cc single and a rear flat.
• Three new TRV (Two Rider Vehicle) models, including a full-featured TRV Cruiser 1000, plus a TRV 550 and TRV 400.
• An exciting, able-for-700 mudding MudPro with huge tires, snorkel and 14 inches of ground clearance.
• The reduced Arctic Cat 150 - the first in a new class of ATVs for adolescents aged 14 and older.
• Three new models sporting DVX, including a DVX 300, DVX and kids of 90 and 50 models.
• Two other new quads children, 50cc and 90cc machines utilities.
In addition, all large cats except MudPro get the ergos and fit new height this year, taking advantage of the suspension sit-in and lower the seat making the Thundercat ergos so popular in its infancy last year.
So sit back, Barack, because Arctic Cat seems to have cornered the market changes.
<b> Not For Mr. Lonely </ b>
In these difficult times on the ATV market, one segment is growing: more passenger vehicles. The seat is the before-and-back or side by side, ATV and UTV, which allow drivers to share the experience with a passenger are hot, and Arctic Cat has to aim to capitalize.
For ATV traditional Cat TRV Cruiser extends its line while twisting the engine options on the standard VTR.
"We are one of only three manufacturers offering 2-ups, and now we offer you the best of the best," said Ole Tweet, CEO the Cat's ATV division and vice president of new product development.
There are two models Cruiser - TRV 1000 H2 EFI Cruiser with the Thundercat's Big Twin 90 degrees, and the TRV 700 H1 EFI Cruiser with Cat's fuel injected 700-single class - and both are beautiful. They have a long list of features series which includes a large windshield fairing connected to a new 2-piece; mirrors, cup holders and a comfortable 2-up seat with heated grips and a comfortable backrest for the passenger, Heated grips, touring a huge lockable storage case / back and chic looking, 12-inch machined aluminum wheels. The 700 is still standard with a winch.
We only had the chance to ride the short cruise on a test track established for small demos, if our assessment is far from complete. But from what we saw, our problem now old of 2008 ATV of the year - the Polaris Sportsman 800 EFI Touring - already strong competition.
The other two 2-up ATVs are the TRV 550, new engine Featured Cat and a TRV 400, 366 with a single air cooled. Of the 550 new, Cat claims the power in its category, although they were not aware of the new Yamaha and Polaris plants to be released when they made this request. We will not fail to sink and the winner for you.
The VTR standard not quite as long a list of standard features like cruise, but still make beautiful buggies 2-up through an extended wheelbase and a comfortable lounge setting.
<b> tuned </ b>
Because the VRT, the side-by-side Prowler UTV enjoy two of the most recent Cat's engines - the 1000 and 550.
Prowler XTZ 1000 offers truly ecstatic when we plant the accelerator to the floor - it accelerates harder than any UTV on the market, without exception.
Driving over bumps consecutive we could get that big dog on wheels, but that does not mean it's unstable.
Cat engineers redesigned the suspension systems on the Prowler 1000, lowering the ride height. With him, ground clearance decreased from 12.5 inches to a very respectable 10 inches, but it has also stabilized the machine. Prior to double arm and rear suspension offers 10 inches each travel.
As fun as the XTZ is driving, it is also easy on the eyes. He "sleep sun-orange paint with graphics of the flame. A hood scoop at the front is all aesthetics - it connects to nothing - but it creates a look real boss. Foot rails, box rails, custom steering wheel to the future, high-end shocks and a rear-view mirror all just great standard.
The popular Prowler XTX 700 H1 EFI Prowler XT 600 and HI back largely unchanged. Features such as aluminum wheels, tilt steering and framework turf saver come on the 700, and both have 12.5 inches of ground clearance and 10 inches of travel.
New for 2009 is a Prowler 550 H1 EFI flat. As its name suggests, it becomes the new 550-class single Cat, plus a flat back instead of a box. It has been described Cat by officials that work / utility oriented "price buster" Prowler in the lineup.
Custom Build <b> Bob Muddy </ b>
Literally moments after the first wave of dealers saw the new 700 H1 EFI MudPro, message boards sites Mudder going wild with the most buzz on the machine ready for mud action ever built by any manufacturer.
The MudPro is more than a name and cool graphics. It's got many features that make it ready for soupiest, sloppiest around sinkholes. From the base, it sliding on the giant 28-inch high-Lifter Outlaw MST tires mounted on wheels 12 inch machined aluminum. They attach to a suspension that has raked 14 inches of ground clearance.
Most notable at a glance, however, is a high-water snorkel that sucks the air higher the handlebar. It also comes standard with front bumper and rear fenders and a large winch 3000-books "for pulling the other guys," an official Cat joked.
The clutch and 4.0 gears of the machine are set up specifically for mudding, Cat officials said. We did not get a chance to go get bogged down on it yet, but even to take a test drive on the course of demonstrating small dealer, the MudPro felt very big, strong and ready for competition.
<b> New Riders emerging class </ b>
Other Cat's CB class is 150 brand new 2x4. For years, runners and some leaders of the plant have complained that it is not all machines for teens who are too big for a 90, but not old enough for a utility quad full size - in fact, all factory warning stickers say owners their quads are large for 16 years and over. But stick to 180 pounds on a 15-year 90 is ridiculous.
Finally, after the manufacturers worked with the Association specialty vehicle industry, a category has been created for these "tweeners" or, as called Cat "racers transition." The first model came out to them, it's Cat 150.
It has a frame rather small, smaller the 200 and 250 on the market, but significantly higher than the 90. Its 149cc engine is built KYMCO-twice governed by the CVT. As stock, it will top out at about 20 mph. Remove a spacer, and it goes up to 30 mph. Remove the two spacers, and climbing harness allow the machine to send the maximum to 38 mph.
The machine comes with two headlights and taillights, and digital instrumentation forward gears and reverse, and it weighs just 334 pounds claimed.
The 150 is fun. We took for about 15 laps in the course of demonstration and would not go down - it's like a medium sized go-kart. We have tortured over bumps and jumps and rollers, and he kept to ask for more, and we might consider our own children transition from their quads to this little machine in the future.
<b> what's new? </ B>
Programming DVX changed significantly. Cat officials dumped both the Suzuki based DVX 400 and KYMCO based DVX 250 and settled on a DVX 300. It is closer in substance to 250, with a 270cc dual camshaft that got bore the same as last year 250, but with a longer stroke and two additional valves (now 4).
At 44.7 inches, It is 3 inches wider than last year year 250, but an inch narrower than the 400. A double-arm front suspension A and the rear swingarm handle the bumps, with new shock calibrations and adjustable preload front. The power is subject to a CVT tranny.
As 150 2x4, it feels like a transitional model more than anything. It will not be confused with a quad race, but nevertheless it's fun and sporty.
Cat also expanded its quad children. 90cc sport utility machines are governed by CVT to enable them to be certified for a class Y10 (10 years), with two parameters - 15 mph and 30 mph. Which eliminated the need for a 70, if launched Cat Utility ATVs and sport. The train for years 90, inverse function - a rare characteristic for quads children.
