High school marching bands are awesome. The precise and choreographed movements of up to 250 musicians all playing in a synchronized way and making patterns and designs on the field is a really cool thing to watch. It is an incredibly difficult and very expensive thing to do though.
Obviously each band member needs an instrument and a uniform to cover the very, very basics of a high school marching band. But they also need to spend time both in class and out of class practicing. They need to pay for travel to go to games and competitions. They need to pay for the music that they play. And there are all kinds of other expenses that pop up.
Because there is such a huge need for money, many turn to high school band fundraisers to help cover the cost. For a very long time, because of their size and high level of motivation, doing the traditional band fundraisers like cookie dough sales worked great. However, as more and more schools have bands that are bigger and bigger, there is just too much competition to be extremely successful.
This is why new band fundraising ideas are such a good idea to look into. If you can find a unique high school band fundraising idea that other groups are not using, you will greatly improve your chances of success. Think about it. If the football team and the drama club and the student council are all selling similar items, and you are selling something different, your customers will likely be burned out on the other product but will be more receptive to the items your band is selling.
