In his own words, "I was getting very famous at the time and I felt the need refresh on various aspects of my job. I felt I was getting too much too fast, so I said, wait a minute, I'll do it my way. I was not going to allow people to push me there, so I could fall. "While on hiatus Rollins had trouble finding a place to practice with the frequency he wanted. He was aware of other peoples' feelings and do not want to annoy his neighbors with the constant noise of his game one day, walking around City, Rollins went on the Williamsburg Bridge. He noted that there was very little traffic on the bridge, and it was long enough that could operate in relative isolation. Sonny spent many hours practicing on the bridge, and alludes to this when he recorded his next album.
