Saxophone Black

Big Band Swing music really developed over the past 20 roaring New Orleans Dixieland and Ragtime. Trumpet player and crown King Oliver had one hot bands playing New Orleans and New York. The young Louis Armstrong was in this band in the early 20s before joining Fletcher Henderson. Louis Armstrong was an innovator and more work with bands and conductors who have been innovators themselves.

Fletcher Henderson: The first major innovator of the Big Band Swing

In 1924, Armstrong joined the Fletcher Henderson band. This is where lot of field work for real what came to big band swing music
occurred. Henderson is credited with standardizing the use of trumpets, trombones and saxophones in the big band. Before the tapes were smaller. Many copied his arrangements and later Benny Goodman urges as an arranger for his own group.

his King Oliver's is a much smaller group with instruments from their own direction as soloists, a trumpet, a clarinet and a trombone.

Henderson considerably expanded on the sound and the different sections of trumpets, trombones, reeds and play independently of each other, but play together
as fully harmonized sections. He later became the New Orleans and its closest swing big band sound that is usually identified with ... and saxophones
instead of clarinets ... Yaayyy!

Harlem, New York was the hub
The hot soak in Harlem was the Savoy Ballroom were all keen to play and everyone wanted to dance. The Cotton Club was Duke Ellington as the "house band" of the late 20's and has been crafting his own big band he wrote and organization and stretch this new landscape Music.

At that time, Cotton Club was different because of Savoy was a showroom for entertainment mostly white with black
musicians and dancers. The Savoy was primarily for blacks.

Chick Webb: The Drummer Drummers
Chick Webb was the first drummer to lead a big band and thereby paved the way for Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson, who were all swept away by Webb during the "Battle of the Bands" which were regular events at the Savoy Ballroom.

The Chick Webb Orchestra became the "house band" at the Savoy around 1931 and became a real piece with dancers lindy hop was called "king of the House of Savoy." He and his band of killers were in the battles of the band. Unfortunately, Webb did not live past 30 years due to tuberculosis of the spine.

Each group working at the time and was in New York would be to stop the Savoy either to take part in the Battle of
bands, or simply have a drink and check the "King". By the 30's the list of musicians who frequented the club is a who's who of the era swing, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Benny Goodman, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa .... imagine being there!

Standards and models have been put there at the House of Savoy with the Fletcher Henderson and Chick Webb musical arrangements with the musical talent that set the level of performance.

It seems that the story regarding the swing era to have begun immediately after Benny Goodman's famous performance ballroom Palomar in 1935. That may be where the rest of America and the world has heard through the media, but the big swing bands were since the mid 20's.

There seems to be a similar comparison in the way rock and roll was born to the masses in the mid 50s, although she was alive and well since the late 40 ... great Swing Band, created primarily by blacks in the 20s, then a decade later Benny Goodman is called the king of swing. Rock and roll is created primarily by blacks in the 40s Elvis Presley was a decade called late king of rock and roll ... How funny it worked.

Both Presley and Goodman played a very important role in the approximation of the most popular music of their time for the masses; Goodman was a conductor hard work and one of the best clarinetist of his era and Elvis had a beautiful voice and stage presence, but are musical innovators.

Big Band Swing era ended several years ago, but you can still hear them today ... tribute bands, large groups of New Swing Band, bands great college, modern swing bands, Brian Setzer Orchestra, etc.

Swing Band big sound is here to stay because he is too cool!
