Buying a clarinet used or refurbished, for many people, feels like a stab in the dark. How do you know what to buy and who to buy? This article provides guidelines that address these two questions if you buy at your local music store or on a site line, or an ad in the newspaper.
o Knowing something about the seller
Research information about the seller if you know who you are buying. Obtain the views of local musicians. Most musicians want to be helpful. music teachers wonder what they think a particular music store or the seller on an online site. Maybe they would be willing to help in the selection process or help with your search vendor. We recommend to stay away from pawn shops unless you really want someone competent to take with you.
o Make sure get a money back guarantee
Do not buy from anyone who will not give you a money back guarantee. I think it is fair to the seller to a reasonable time on their refund policy. Make sure you are clear about their return policy and it is possible to return to the clarinet and what are the conditions.
o Know what you want
If you buy for a beginner or a child, you probably want to start with a rubber clarinet plastic or paper. This type of clarinet requires less care and maintenance than a wooden clarinet and is generally less resistant which makes it easier for a beginner to get your product. Again, ask those who know. Teachers will be happy to give you their opinion on what is a good choice.
Some of our recommendations are to be observed for major brands in search of a clarinet. Selmer, Yamaha, Buffet and Leblanc are all manufacturers of confidence with a long history of producing good, solid clarinets. Another good choice can be hard rubber clarinet Ridenour Ridenour made by Tom I found to be great sounding clarinets at prices more affordable.
If you are looking for a clarinet for a beginner or a child, following models are good: the 300 and 1400 models Selmer, Yamaha 20, Leblanc Vito Resotone (# 3, 7212, and 7214) and B12 Buffet Clarinet resonite are all solid and good choice for a beginning instrument. The Ridenour 147 is a new model clarinet that plays very well also. We found all the models mentioned here to be very consistent in quality. Of course, it also makes a huge difference in how it used clarinet was treated.
If you are looking for a wooden instrument, again, we recommend that the above manufacturers. Some models would be the line Selmer Signet, the Noblet Leblanc clarinets or Normandy. We strongly recommend you stay away from clarinet brands you've never heard of. There are many of them that are just simply not well done and not the quality of the brands mentioned above.
o Know what to look for.
Check the fittings for worn edges, splits or other damage. If shopping online, look carefully at the pictures. Do not buy anything that is not clearly demonstrated with several photos. Look at the cap where the parts are interconnected. Is it chipped or badly worn or even missing? Read a copy of the seller carefully. We recommend you stay away from any seller who is not known with clarinets.
o Do not forget to bargain!
Make an offer he can not never hurt to try.
o Good luck!
As you research and explore the vast world of clarinets, I encourage you to have fun with this process. Hopefully some of what you read here will help you do so.
