So you've decided to play the flute. Terrific choice!
Now you need an instrument. If you're totally new the world of flute, it can be a difficult decision, but here are some suggestions to get you started.
First, develop a budget. Like any major purchase, should your wallet be your guide. The more money you spend, the instrument of superior quality you can acquire.
The biggest factor in determining price is the metal of your flute is made from.
Student Flutes are made from silver, where upscale flutes are made of solid silver.
It is also possible to divide the difference "and get a flute with a silver metal body and a solid silver head joint. This is a good option for those with a limited budget because the joint head contributes more to the sound quality of the flute.
If money is no object, you can buy flutes of gold, yellow gold, rose gold and even platinum.
There are a number of characteristics that can raise the price of a flute.
The traditional flute extends downward to a low C, or middle C. With a B-foot joint, you can play the B below as C.
Is this an option necessary?
No, not at all. It's a bit of a status symbol among flutists and some argue that increasing the length of the tube improves complexion. It's very subjective, however, and that low B is almost never played! You can do very well without the small B-foot joint.
Another popular upgrade flute is the "open hole" flutes. On this type of flute, the keys look like little donuts, it there are holes in the middle of the keys.
The benefit of this? correct placement of the fingers is one. The fingers should cover these holes so that the notes of his, so sloppy fingering can not be tolerated.
Improving the sound quality is also a presumed advantage.
For those flutists who are "extended techniques," many cool effects can be obtained with open hole keys, such as sliding your fingers on the keys of for "fat" sounds, play half-tones, or even play Irish style or music style penny-whistle.
Open holes are necessary? Not at all.
The plate lip seals head can be engraved with a floral or scroll. This not only makes the flute more beautiful but prevents slippage of the flute against the chin. Necessary? No Fun? Of course! I have this option on my flute and I really like it.
So where to buy your flute?
A music store is the obvious answer. In addition to outright purchase, stores have generally a program very reasonable rental bikes to students who do not know if they'll stick with the program of the band. Ask the bank if it is also available to adults.
Flutes returning the rental program can be a good deal for the purchase. The repair shop will be the revision of the flute and is offered at a discounted price again.
You can also find a flute for sale in the classified ads in newspapers or simply asking around. Stop at a local university and you will probably find flutes for sale notices on bulletin boards in the music department.
In these cases, have a professional look to the first flute and give you an opinion.
You can find flutes for sale on eBay, too. Make sure you have the opportunity to try the flute first and return if you are not happy with it.
There are many vendors online tools, probably the greater the wind and Brasswind, http://www.wwbw.com . You can get a lot of this company and they send you the instrument on first try, even more than one at a time.
Take your time to decide carefully and get lots of opinions. Your friend will become a flute for you and if you buy it right the first time, it will last a lifetime.
