Conn saxophones began in Elkhart, Indiana late 1880, when a man named Gus Buescher made a saxophone at the request of the sax virtuoso EA Lefebre, someone who had known Adolphe Sax, inventor of the saxophone, earlier in the 19th century in Europe. CG Conn was the founder and owner Company Conn musical instrument, and some of its models from the early twentieth century are popular instruments are the choice of some of the best players Saxophone professionals worldwide. Not only that, but with design innovations Conn saxophone and production have a great influence on other manufacturers saxophones.
Conn was an astute businessman, too. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1892. There he introduced a bill requiring all U.S. military regiments have their own groups, with various instruments specified. This, of course, led to a huge influx of military orders for Conn instruments by the turn of the century. Conn probably would not get away with such a blatant conflict of interest today, but it certainly has kept the company productive Conn musical instrument.
Alto tenor saxophone and made their debut at the World Columbia Exposition of 1893. This model was called "Wonder" and turn units century military used the saxophone into their bands. The early instruments were made in silver plate with gold buttons. Some were made of nickel plate, and some polished brass.
The 1920s were peak Conn. The company has been making instruments which were considered the "gold standard" design of the saxophone. They also offer custom finishes and engraving, so that instruments not only sounded great, they were very nice as well. After World War II, Conn did some innovative models such as the alto sax Constellation, which is today coveted by collectors.
The "baby boom" years of the 50 Conn made to focus increasingly on survey instruments for all students new school. In 1960, Conn saxophone student was in Arizona, although the models were professional still made in Elkhart. They stopped taking professional models in 1970, however. The story of Conn saxophones is rich in history and would make an excellent book.
