Shako

A shako is a large cylindrical military cap, usually with a peak (British English) or visor (American English), sometimes tapered at the top. It is usually decorated with a kind of ornamental plate or badge on the front, metallic or not, and often has a feather, feather, or pompon (also called sultan) [citation needed], attached at the top. The word comes from shako Hungarian name ("cap"), which was part of the uniform Hungarian hussar of the 18th century. Other spellings include chako, Czako, and Schako tschako. In 1800, the shako became a common military headdress of many regiments in many armies. He retained that position until the mid-19th century, when spiked helmets began to appear in the armies of various German states, and the more practical kepi replaced it for all but parade wear in the French army. After the Franco-Prussian war of 1870, the military has changed fashion and fabric or leather helmets based on the German headdress began to replace the shako in many armies.

Platinum Earring

While impressive in appearance, adding at the height of the wearer, the shako was heavy and clumsy in the field, offering little protection against the enemy or the weather. Most models have been made of fabric or felt on a leather body and peak. During the period of general peace that followed the Napoleonic wars, the shako in European armies has become a showy and impractical headdress best suited for the parade. For example, the shako "Regency" officers of the army British in 1822 was eight and a half inches in height, eleven inches in diameter at the crown, with ornamental gold cords and lace. The cap was surmounted by a plume of twelve inches and held in place by bronze chin scales. In 1914, the shako was always worn in France (horse hunters, infantry the Republican Guard, African hunters and Hussars) Imperial Germany (JGER, Landwehr and marines), Austria-Hungary (infantry row and the Hussars), Russia (generals, senior officers, and infantry, engineers and artillery of the Imperial Guard) Belgium (line infantry, chasseurs' foot, engineers, fortress artillery and cavalry), Mexico (federal troops of all branches), Romania (artillery), Italy (horse artillery and military academies) and Spain (line infantry, cazadores, engineers, and artillery). The Highland Light Infantry and Scottish Rifles of the British Army retained small shakos for full dress, and the 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica indicates that it is planned to reintroduce the shako as parade dress of every regiment of line infantry in English - a project interrupted by the outbreak the First World War, Swiss and Dutch armies wore shako even wear on the field until 1916. The Japanese army had carried shako as parade headdress until 1905, although a form of high-sided cap was normal wear. During this final period of elaborate and colorful traditional uniforms, the shako varied widely from army to height, color, trim, and profile. Among The most significant was the high Napoleonic shako (river) carried by the Russian Imperial Guard and the simplified model with low (ROS) the Spanish army. The Swiss version had black leather spikes at the front and rear - a feature that also appeared in the cap similar shako worn by British postmen between 1896 and 1910 and New Zealand police in the same period. Most German police forces adopted a version of the shako J ger? after the First World War, replacing the leather helmet spiked (spiked helmet), which was located on the former imperial regime. This new hairstyle survived several political changes, backed by the civilian police of the Weimar Republic, Germany Nazi and East Germany West Germany. It finally disappeared in the 1970s, when the various police forces of West Germany adopted a uniform standard green and gray cap that included high facade peaked yet ported. In Europe, the infantry of the Republican Guard French, cadets at Saint-Cyr, cadets at the Belgian Royal Military Academy [1], cadets at the Portuguese Colgio Militar do schools and Pupilos Exrcito Military Italian Horse Guards Corps, Horse Artillery and cadets at the Military Academy of Modena, the Danish Home Guard Hussar Regiment, and the Spaniards Royal Guard and 1st Infantry Regiment were all shakos in their ceremonial uniforms. Various Latin American armies, including those Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay and Argentina, to retain custody of ceremonies for the shakos uniform or military academy. In Russia, the river's history has been reintroduced for wear by the Kremlin Guards for ceremonial occasions. In India, Madras Sappers, a Regiment (aka Madras Sappers & Minor, Madras Engineer Group) nearly 300 years, also wear dark blue shakos visorless under their dress uniform. Indonesian ceremonial unit and the corps of military academies in the Philippines and South Korea also shakos use. United States, shakos are still worn as head covering, full-dress with cadets from the Military Academy in Valley Forge, U.S. Military Academy Virginia Military Institute, The Citadel, and at New York Military Academy with their complete uniform dress Grey. United States and the Philippines are often shakos worn by civilian marching bands and drum corps. In the latter country, the cadets of some civilian institutions such as the National Police Academy, [4] and Some colleges and high schools also use the shako, but peaked "cap service" styles have become more popular in recent years. These styles still in use shako bands are typically quite large and developed plumes. About the Author

In spite of having been short-lived, Weimar has never lost its fascination. Until recently the Weimar Republic's place in German history was primarily defined by its catastrophic beginning and endGermany's defeat in 1918 and the Nazi seizure of power in 1933; its history seen mainly in terms of politics and as an arena of flawed decisions and failed compromises. However, a flourishing of interdisciplinary scholarship on Weimar political culture is uncovering arenas of conflict and change that had not been studied closely before, such as gender, body politics, masculinity, citizenship, empire and borderlands, visual culture, popular culture and consumption. This collection offers new perspectives from leading scholars in the disciplines of history, art history, film studies, and German studies on the vibrant political culture of Germany in the 1920s. From the traumatic ruptures of defeat, revolution, and collapse of the Kaiser's state, the visionaries of Weimar went on to invent a republic, calling forth new citizens and cultural innovations that shaped the republic far beyond the realms of parliaments and political parties.

Weimar Radicals

Weimar Radicals

$90

Exploring the gray zone of infiltration and subversion in which the Nazi and Communist parties sought to influence and undermine each other, this book offers a fresh perspective on the relationship between Communism and Fascisma key problem of twentieth-century German history. The struggle between Nazism and Communism is situated within a broader conversation among right and left-wing publicists, across the Youth Movement and in the National Bolshevik scene, thus revealing the existence of a discourse on revolutionary legitimacy fought according to a set of common assumptions about the qualities of the ideal revolutionary. Highlighting the importance of a masculine-militarist politics of youth revolt operative in both Marxist and anti-Marxist guises, Weimar Radicals forces us to re-think the fateful relationship between the two great ideological competitors of the Weimar Republic, while offering a challenging new interpretation of the distinctive radicalism of the interwar era.
